1. Wang Yan Research Group of Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology: Electrospinning 10 micron thick nano mesh reinforced breathable hydrogel ..
The Wang Yan research group of Guangdong Israel Institute of Technology has developed a breathable hydrogel skin sensor enhanced by electrospinning 10 micron thick nano mesh, which is used for bioelectronic monitoring and has realized long-term continuous and high-quality electrophysiological signal recording. The long-term continuous human health monitoring function of skin bioelectronics provides an effective way for timely disease prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment, which is of great significance for personalized health care. Hydrogels show great potential in health related applications due to their similarity to biological tissues and diversity in electrical, mechanical and biological functional engineering. However, it is still a challenge to prepare thin, tough, breathable hydrogel sensors that can self adhere to human skin for long-term daily use (>1 week). Micron thickness hydrogels are usually vulnerable to mechanical damage. Improving mechanical properties often leads to device thickness increase, limits air permeability, and may cause mechanical or sensory interference. The article introduces a paper titled "A 10 micrometer thick nanomesh reinforced gas permeable hydrogel skin sensor for long-term electrophysiological monitoring" published by Associate Professor Wang Yans research group in Science Advances. This study was supported by projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and Li Ka shing Foundation. The first author of the paper is doctoral student Zhang
Zongman. Science Advances is a sub journal of Science with an impact factor of 14.957 in 2023, aiming to rapidly publish high-level research results that have made significant progress in related fields. Main innovation points: Self adhesion and continuous monitoring: This sensor can self adhere to human skin for high-quality electrophysiological monitoring for 8 consecutive days under daily living conditions. Material design and preparation: material design of gelatin based thermally related phase change hydrogel. Preparation of robust thin geometric structures reinforced with nano grids (prepared by electrospinning). By immersing PU nanonets in a temperature dependent phase change hydrogel solution, an ultra-thin and tough reinforced structure was obtained. The ultrathin hydrogel prepared has a thickness of about 10 microns, and has excellent mechanical firmness, high skin adhesion, air permeability and drying resistance. Signal recording: successfully demonstrated the long-term high fidelity recording of ECG, EMG, MCV, EOG, EEG, ABR and VEP signals with ultra-thin breathable hydrogel. The specific achievements show the mechanical properties and structure: the cross section scanning electron microscope image of the ultra-thin hydrogel attached to the anodized aluminum substrate shows that its thickness is 10 microns. The mechanical robustness test shows that the ultra-thin hydrogel can support a large amount of water, showing excellent tensile stress. The photos peeled off from human skin show good adhesion and high elasticity. Electrophysiological signal monitoring: Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring: ultrathin hydrogel is used for long-term continuous high fidelity ECG information monitoring under daily living condit『SILVER Official Website SERVICE』
